Menarco turns to First Gen for its renewable energy supply


Menarco Development Corporation hired First Gen Corporation to power its award-winning 32-story tower in Taguig City using a renewable energy source.

In a statement, First Gen vice president Carlo Vega said that under the two-year agreement that will take effect later this month, the subsidiary of the power company Green Core Geothermal Inc. (GCGI) will provide Menarco Tower with 800 kilowatts of electricity.

“We are pleased that our agreement with Menarco Development completes the image of Menarco Tower as a highly innovative, energy efficient, healthy, secure and high-tech boutique office tower,” said Vega.

Menarco Tower has achieved a singular distinction by being the first and only office tower in South East Asia to overcome the stringent health and environmental requirements to be WELL Gold certified by the International Well Building Institute and for obtain LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council. .

“The Menarco Tower is designed to provide humanity-centered spaces that ensure the health and well-being of the building community, while minimizing any negative impact on the environment. Menarco is proud to partner with First Gen for our renewable energy needs, ”said Carmen Jimenez-Ong, Founder and CEO of Menarco Development.

Menardo Jimenez, the president of Menarco, is on Forbes’ list of the 50 richest Filipinos of 2020.

He gained his wealth as a senior executive and investor in broadcast giant GMA Network, of which he was the former chairman.

GCGI, an indirect subsidiary of First Gen, is licensed as a retail electricity supplier.

It also owns and operates two integrated geothermal power plants; one in Leyte and another in Negros Island.

In addition to geothermal energy, First Gen’s power plant portfolio also uses renewable energy sources such as hydropower, wind and solar.

First Gen also owns and operates power plants that run on natural gas, considered the cleanest form of fossil fuel. – BM, GMA News
