Cipla adds captive renewable power plant capacity in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Energy News, ET EnergyWorld

Cipla Limited on Thursday announced the commercial operation of additional capacity from a captive renewable energy power plant in Maharashtra and Karnataka.

The company had commissioned a 30 MWp solar project in Tuljapur, Maharashtra in January 2021, to which it has further added 16 MWp of solar capacity to supply renewable energy to its manufacturing units/facilities in the ‘State.

These projects were commissioned in partnership with AMP Energy India, according to the company.

“The project will support the company’s green energy needs for its manufacturing units at Kurkumbh and Patalganga and its R&D center at Vikhroli in Maharashtra, replacing approximately 70% of the total consumption of these units with green energy” , says a statement from the company.

With regard to Karnataka, Cipla commissioned a captive hybrid wind-solar power plant with a capacity of 9 MWp solar + 2.7 MVA wind in partnership with CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions.

“This project will help migrate 85% of energy requirements to renewable sources for its manufacturing units in Karnataka,” the statement added.

Geena Malhotra, President and Global Head of Manufacturing Operations, Cipla, said: “This project is a big step forward in our goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2025. We are striving to continue to increase the share of renewable energy at our sites with the aim of contributing to India’s program to increase energy production from non-fossil fuel sources.”

“Over the past 3 years, Cipla has added a significant capacity of 66 MWp of equivalent solar power portfolio through various initiatives such as an on-site solar rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects under the RESCO model, and a project solar/wind open access captive in partnership with leading IPPs (Independent Power Producers),” the statement read.

In FY22, the company supplied a total of 68,200 mWh of renewable energy for its operations across India, resulting in a reduction of 56,000 tonnes of CO2.
